Dr. Lacretia Carroll Joins the Drake Institute’s Board of Advisors

Washington, D.C.—Dr. Lacretia Carroll has joined the Drake Institute of Research and Policy where she helps advise the Institute on matters related to health policy and research. Dr. Carroll is an accomplished Nursing Professional and Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, College of Nursing. She brings a passion for improving health outcomes and decreasing health disparities.

As a clinician, she assisted with the development of the Options Clinic at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Carroll saw a need in the Mississippi River Delta Region for a multidisciplinary clinic for children and adolescents with disorders of sexual development (DSD). 

Dr. Carroll’s initiative, creativity, and resourcefulness led her to write and publish an age appropriate book for children with DSD. The increased education not only assisted the nurses and providers, it also improved satisfaction with the patients and families.

Dr. Lacretia Carroll not only has a strong clinical background, she also has strong ties with community partners. Together they aim to address the needs of the community and improve overall outcomes for the underserved. The quality of her work has been recognized by local, regional, national, and international organizations.

Dr. Carroll also brings political experience to the Institute’s advisory board. She has been involved in several political campaigns and currently serves as the Treasurer of the Shelby County Democratic Party. She is a recent alumnus of the Leaders of Color Initiative, an initiative designed to elevate progressive Black and Latino leaders to public office. 

Dr. Carroll has stellar credentials and is a rising star in the community. She will be instrumental in helping the Drake Institute establish strong relationships with members of the research community in the State of Tennessee.
