Destiny Drake West is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Drake Institute of Research and Policy. She spearheads policy and technology development for the institute and is the developer of the nation’s first expansive public policy taxonomy.

Destiny has significant leadership accomplishments in communications, civic engagement, and advocacy. She is a strong proponent of criminal justice reform and fair housing.

Her mantra is “learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, and plead the widow’s case.”

In June 2017, the University of California Irvine awarded Destiny with the Dickman Graduate Research Award for Community Engagement. She has also received numerous congressional awards for her leadership and diplomacy in cultivating relationships and building strategic partnerships.

Destiny is the former co-chair of the Empowerment Congress Central Area Neighborhood Development Council, representing 20,000 residents and stakeholders in South Los Angeles, California. During her tenure, she authored the first-of-its-kind public policy at the neighborhood council level that addressed homelessness, in an effort to combat the growing rate of crime and vagrancy.

Destiny holds a Master of Advanced Study in Criminology, Law, and Society and a bachelor’s degree in Public Relations. Her research focused broadly on official misconduct and more particularly on prosecutorial misconduct. She also holds a certificate in Public Policy from the Los Angeles African American Women Public Policy Institute (LAAAWPPI).

In recent years, Destiny served as a policy advisor in the office of Congressman Alcee Hastings and as a legislative officer for Prince George’s County Executive, Angela Alsobrooks.
